    The Indian Air Scenario

    November 6, 2005

President A P J Abdul Kalam, concluded the fifth J R D Tata Memorial Lecture at
the National Institute of Advanced Studies ( NIAS ) in Banglore on
“Aerospace Technologies: Past, Present and Future,” by quoting
When our 150-seater aircraft flies in our sky, JRD will smile,” which
drew a thundering applause from the audience, which heard his 30-minute lecture
    in rapt attention.

This is with reference to the Indians building an indigenously developed 150
seater aircraft on view of the rising demand for such aircrafts in the overseas
    market.

The Past year has seen three new entrants in the domestic air market.
Just today, I read about another one, Go Air. Another low cost airline!
The other low cost airlines in the country are Deccan Air, Spice Air and
    Kingfisher Airlines.

Kerala Air is expected to launch in the near future.

With a spate of low budget airlines coming into the market, travelling has
no doubt become less strainous and quick but are the airports in the country
well equipped to meet such heavy air traffic.
This does point a finger to the infrastructure of the airports.
Other than the International Airports in the country the remaining are in a
    pitiable state.

The government has to wake up before its too late, as seen in the past,
it takes a tragedy to shake the government from their slumber sleep but by
then its too late.. precious lives are lost .. property worth millions damaged.
